How to Dress to Flatter Any Body Type

Learning to dress properly at any size is an important skill. When you wear clothes that are not flattering, you hide the beauty that is uniquely you. Here are some tips to help you be the best you can be.

Steps

  1. Assess your body. Stand in front of the mirror. (Unclothed, if you're really hard core.) Pick three things that you like about you. (For me, it's my legs, my neck, and my collarbone.) Then, choose three things that you don't like about you. (My hips, tummy, and feet.) Note: Be nice. You aren't out to hurt yourself, you're out to flatter your body.Dress%20to%20Flatter%20Any%20Body%20Type%20Step%201.jpg
  2. Assess your wardrobe. Try on everything. Ask yourself these questions. Am I struggling to button, snap, or zip? Is this item too short, tight, long, loose? Is it comfortable? Does it look good? Is it out of date? If you answered yes to any of these questions, put the item aside. After you go through your whole wardrobe, give away or donate the items that you set aside.Dress%20to%20Flatter%20Any%20Body%20Type%20Step%202.jpg
  3. If you edited a lot of items, you need to go shopping. Get a good base of staples. Put together your wardrobe around your lifestyle. If you work, you may want a base of dress shirts, pants, or suits. If you are very active, you may want a base of sweats, jeans, and tees. Tailor your base to you.Dress%20to%20Flatter%20Any%20Body%20Type%20Step%203.jpg
  4. Go back to the parts of your body you like or don't like. If you don't like your hips, wear bright tops and shoes and neutral pants. If you don't like your chest, wear flowing tops. If you like your collarbone, wear V-neck or scoop neck tops. If you like your waist, wear form-fitting or cinched in tops and dresses. Use bright colors to draw attention to areas you like. Use neutrals to detract attention to areas you don't like.Dress%20to%20Flatter%20Any%20Body%20Type%20Step%204.jpg
  5. Develop a base of colorful accessories. Scarves, jewelry, handbags, etc. These can be trendy patterns and colors. (Keep your wardrobe timeless and neutral.)Dress%20to%20Flatter%20Any%20Body%20Type%20Step%205.jpg
  6. Most important, keep confident. You need to learn to love your body at any size and shape. You're uniquely you, so relish in it.Dress%20to%20Flatter%20Any%20Body%20Type%20Step%206.jpg
