How to Dress to Look Older
Dressing to look older can be a helpful skill to have—regardless if you feel you look to young or you think you just need that extra kick, it's not too hard to do. There are only a few points that can drastically change the age people guess you at.
Wear clothes that show some cleavage. Be careful with this, though. Do not show so much that it looks like you're trying too hard. If you don't have too much cleavage, ruffles and horizontal stripes help to augment the appearance and help make you look bigger.
High heels are perfect. Heels can not only make you appear taller, give you longer legs, and more cleavage, but they also imply that you are older. They are also a good addition of class to any outfit.
Make-up. Makeup on the heavier side for formal occasions or night clubs and lighter makeup for day and work is perfect. A little makeup can make you look a lot older, and it doesn't even have to be too much. Some mascara, lip gloss, and foundation can already add two years alone.
Wear clothes that compliment your figure. If you're skinny, wear tighter fitting clothes that create the illusion of curves. Skinny and flare jeans are a great way to go. Show off your body! Shorts or a short skirt for a night out can be perfect. If you're on the heavier side, try not to wear tight fitting clothing, as this may even add some pounds. Instead, wear clothes that fit well and darker colors such as navy, maroon and black, which slim a curvier figure.
Accessorize. Play with big earrings, chunky bracelets and long pendant necklaces. However, be careful not to overwhelm any outfit with too much bling, because it will look like you're trying too hard and it may clash.
Act your age. If you're 16 trying to look 20, don't act like a 13-year-old or a forty year old. If you were really twenty, act like twenty. This helps a lot.
All you need is confidence! Flaunt your look and be proud of it. Stand up straight with your chin up and shoulders back and walk with purpose.
